Week 1 in the CFL features a clash between the last two Grey Cup Champions with the Montreal Alouettes hosting the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night. The Als lost to the Argos in the East Final last year, but my Argonauts vs. Alouettes predictions expect them to get a measure of revenge here.

My Argonauts vs Alouettes pick: Alouettes -4.5 (-120 at BET99)
The Montreal Alouettes had one of the top defenses in the CFL last year, and that unit should be just as stingy this season.
There are questions on the other side of the ball, with 26-year-old Davis Alexander taking over from veteran Cody Fajardo at QB. But Alexander went 4-0 as a starter last year and flashed a big arm along with good decision-making.
Expect him to thrive behind a solid line and with a strong group of receivers at his disposal.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Argonauts have officially ruled out star QB Chad Kelly for Week 1 as he recovers from a leg injury.
They won the Grey Cup last year with Nick Arbuckle under center, but he's a clear downgrade from Kelly. Arbuckle's track record has been inconsistent, and it doesn't help that Toronto cut RB Ka'Deem Carey last week while letting All-Star OT Dejon Allen leave in free agency.
I'm even more concerned about Toronto's defense with the Argos losing five key players from a stacked D-line rotation and saying goodbye to two of their best defensive backs.
The Als outgained the Argos 486-390 in the East Final last year but lost due to five turnovers. Taking better care of the ball will lead to a win and cover in Week 1.

Not only did the Argos cut Carey and backup RB Kevin Brown last week, but the Als also released Walter Fletcher, their own starting RB who had more than 1,400 total yards last year. That could lead to both teams airing it out more than usual and more big plays downfield.
Toronto's defense should take a major step back after losing seven starters from last year's Grey Cup squad. However, Montreal's defense could also be less dominant than usual in Week 1 due to the absence of All-Star defensive tackle Mustafa Johnson.
