LIV Golf Mexico City picks and predictions
Outright pick: Bryson DeChambeau
+800 at bet365
A tough Sunday shouldn’t cloud over Bryson DeChambeau’s T5 in the Masters, and he also finished T2 in the 2020 WGC-Mexico Championship at this track while gaining true strokes across the board.
His iron play has been a little inconsistent, but he’s been otherwise dialed in and trending in the right direction with three more major championships ahead. If his approach game shows improvement this week, a third LIV Golf win is well within reach.
Finishing position pick: Sam Horsfield Top Majesticks
+175 at Caesars
The Majesticks GC elder statesmen aren’t carrying their weight, and while Sam Horsfield hasn’t exactly been lighting the LIV Golf circuit on fire, he’s still far and away the best player on his team by any meaningful rank.
Player | LIV Golf Standings | DataGolf Ranking | True SG: Total Rank |
---|---|---|---|
Sam Horsfield | 24th | 304th | 32nd |
Henrik Stenson | 41st | 332nd | 47th |
Lee Westwood | 51st | Unranked | 49th |
Ian Poulter | 54th | 403rd | 43rd |
Matchup pick: David Puig over Paul Casey
-110 at DraftKings
We’re landing a fair number here because Paul Casey played all four of the WGC-Mexico Championship events at Club de Golf Chapultepec, and he played well (T16-T-12-T3-11). Still, David Puig is an up-and-coming talent, and he’s beaten Casey in four of the five LIV Golf events this year.
Puig is also third in true strokes gained tee-to-green and 18th in putting in this field, compared to Casey respectively ranking 12th and 30th across six events this year.
LIV Golf Mexico City field and favorites
Jon Rahm's status as the No. 1 choice on these weekly LIV odds boards is not yet in danger. He entered Augusta in decent form but kicked off the tournament with an opening-round 75 and was never in the mix despite ultimately finishing T14. He's on this week's board as long as +600.
At some books, Bryson DeChambeau is the No. 2 choice. He was in the final group with Rory McIlroy on Sunday at the Masters and even had the lead early on before drifting away to finish T5. He's available at 9/1.
At other books, that second spot belongs to Joaquin Niemann, who's won two LIV events this season but finished just T29 at the Masters and T44 in Miami the week before.
Tyrrell Hatton (+1000) and Sergio Garcia (+1600) round out the Top 5 this week, with Patrick Reed (+1600) sixth on the board after a LIV-best third-place finish at the Masters.
