Yankees vs Twins best bet: Over 9 (-110)
This matchup features two very exploitable pitchers, and with that in mind, the total stands out as my best bet. It’s a number I projected to be in double digits.
For the New York Yankees, we have rookie righty Cam Schlittler, who has been among the most suspect starting pitchers in the rotation. He’ll enter this game with an expected ERA a full run higher than his actual ERA, signaling impending regression.
In addition, he has pedestrian hard-hit metrics. The Minnesota Twins lineup has enough power to punish him, especially from a home run perspective — something I love when targeting an over.
In the opposite dugout is Zebby Matthews. He has flashed elite strikeout stuff at times this season, but when the strikeouts aren’t there, he struggles.
He’ll get a fair amount of swings and misses this evening, but the Yankees have cleaned up some of the whiff-rate problems from a season ago, and are well-positioned to punish his barrel and hard-hit rates, which both sit in the bottom 20th percentile of the sport.

We’re taking the two biggest names on each team to go deep in Aaron Judge and Byron Buxton.
The reasoning is the same for both players: each is the best on their team against the fastball, will see a ton of fourseamers, and will face pitchers with barrel-rate issues. Simple enough.
