The Chiefs were not able to accomplish the first three-peat in Super Bowl history. Kansas City was blown out by the Philadelphia Eagles, 40-22.

The Chiefs were -1.5 favorites at most sportsbooks heading into the game.

Did the Chiefs cover the spread in Super Bowl 59?

Update: The Chiefs did not cover the spread in Super Bowl 59.

The Super Bowl point spread has not moved much over the past two weeks. It began as Chiefs -1.5 and has remained there at most sportsbooks.

That said, Caesars Sportsbook moved the spread a half of a point this past week, from Chiefs -1.5 to Chiefs -1.

Even at the new number, Eagles +1 (-115) was generating more interest than Chiefs -1 (-105) at Caesars.

Did the betting favorite or underdog win Super Bowl 59 bets?

Underdog bettors have been raking it in when it comes to the Super Bowl of late. In each of the past four Super Bowls prior to tonight, the underdog has cashed against the spread.

Heading into tonight’s game, the favorite has not cashed since the Chiefs five years ago against the 49ers. Kansas City closed as a -1.5 betting favorite and won the game, 31-20.

In the Chiefs vs. Eagles Super Bowl matchup from two years ago, Kansas City closed as a +1.5 underdog. Chiefs bettors won as Kansas City prevailed outright, 38-35.

Chiefs against the spread

The Chiefs are 9-10 ATS this season, which is not a surprising mark to most NFL observers. Kansas City was often a touchdown favorite this season but would let its opponent hang around and eke out a close game.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs were -9.5 favorites against the Texans in the Divisional Round but failed to cover, winning 23-14.

Kansas City was a -1 favorite against the Bills in the AFC title game and covered with a 32-29 victory.
