Q&A with Joshua Howe

Where does your love of sports come from?

I wasn't a massive sports fan until 2003 (I would have been nine years old), when I witnessed my first LeBron James breakaway tomahawk slam — a force so powerful that it rattled all the way from the shuddering rim through my television screen and into my bones. From that moment, I was hooked.

Did you play sports growing up?

Yes, and I still do. When I was young, I participated in all sorts of sports — from soccer to volleyball to swimming. These days, I mostly stick to pick-up basketball, competing in the occasional tournament or two.

What do you look for in a sportsbook?

Aside from the typical factors (competitive lines, a robust menu, etc.), I always look for a reliable live betting section. As one of the most immersive betting experiences on the market today, a sportsbook's in-play offering needs to have up-to-the-moment odds, easily scannable visuals, and lightning-quick loading times.

What's your best advice for sports bettors?

Remember: Sports betting is meant to be a fun, recreational pastime, not a means to get rich quickly. Always place wagers while in the proper mindset and be aware of all of the responsible gambling tools at your disposal, such as self-exclusion lists, timeouts, and spending limits.

Joshua's top Covers tip

If you're new to sports betting or simply prefer viewing odds through a particular lens, Covers' odds calculator is an excellent tool. And, if you're looking to consistently wager parlays, its sister tool, the parlay calculator, is invaluable.

8-Ball Pool

Operator promos

Among the many topics that fall under Joshua's expertise are operator promos. He takes care to break down convoluted terms and conditions into digestible bites, pinpoint which offers provide the most tangible value, and provide a level of transparency that aligns with user expectations.

Cross-media

Sportsbook reviews

During his time with Covers, Joshua has written and maintained over 25 sportsbook reviews, ranging from major operators like bet365 and FanDuel to smaller players such as Golden Nugget and Borgata.

Joshua's memories

🚀 Big Win

Joshua's favourite futures win came in 2022, when he backed Toronto's Scottie Barnes at +1100 to win the NBA's Rookie of the Year award.

😭 Bad Beat?

Expecting the Oklahoma City Thunder to run roughshod over the underdog Indiana Pacers in the 2025 NBA Finals, Joshua assumed the series would last a snappy five games. That was not the case, dear reader.
