Week 9 wraps up on Saturday night with a clash between the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Montreal Alouettes at Molson Stadium.

These teams are the Grey Cup favorites, and my Roughriders vs. Alouettes predictions are betting on a hard-nosed defensive battle.

Here are my best free CFL picks for this marquee matchup on August 2.

Roughriders vs Alouettes prediction

My Roughriders vs Alouettes pick: Under 50.5 (-110 at BET99)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders boast an explosive attack but were held to 21 points or less in two of their last three games. They could find it tough to score on the road in Montreal — especially with top wideout Samuel Emilus once again sidelined by a lower-body injury.

The Montreal Alouettes have one of the best stop units in the CFL. The Als limit big plays and do a great job of forcing two-and-outs. They sit first in the league in yards allowed per rush (4.5) while ranking second in yards allowed per pass (7.7).

Saskatchewan also limits big plays and stuffs the run, holding foes to a league-low 66.9 rushing yards per game on 4.6 yards per attempt. The Roughriders lead the CFL with 20 sacks, thanks to a defensive line that collapsed the pocket at will last week.

The Riders have been vulnerable against the pass but Montreal won't be able to take advantage of that weakness. The Als are missing starting QB Davis Alexander, along with their two best receivers in Tyson Philpot and Austin Mack.

I've been burned betting Unders this year with bad offenses leading to defensive TDs. However, both teams take care of the ball, ranking first and third in the league in turnovers per game. Expect few turnovers and plenty of punts, leading to the Under cashing.

Roughriders vs Alouettes same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 50.5

Alouettes +3.5

Which side you like in this matchup comes down to whether you prefer Saskatchewan's edge at QB or Montreal's superior pass defense and home-field advantage.

Since I'm expecting a lower-scoring contest, it makes sense to back the Als with the points especially since they've gone 3-0 SU and ATS in the last three head-to-head meetings in Montreal.
