World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is eyeing his first PGA Tour win of the 2025 season in his home state this week’s Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch.

Scheffler is the betting favorite in the CJ CUP Byron Nelson odds, and he’s also headlining my top golf picks for this week’s showdown in the Lone Star State.

Golf picks for the CJ CUP Byron Nelson 2025

CJ CUP Byron Nelson outright picks

Outright pick: Scottie Scheffler
+280 at DraftKings

The first win of the 2025 season is coming for Scottie Scheffler.

He’s been knocking on victory’s door with five Top 10s through eight 2025 events, including in each of his past three tournaments, and the World No. 1 has also improved in each of his three trips to TPC Craig Ranch. Scheffler finished T5 during his last visit in 2023, and he gained true strokes across the board, including ranking second in tee-to-green play.

His game is firing on all cylinders again, with true strokes gained in all five metrics to pace this field in tee-to-green play while also ranking second on approach and 10th in putting.

Outright pick: Byeong Hun An
+2700 at bet365

This will be the third consecutive visit to TPC Craig Ranch for Byeong Hun An, and he followed up his T14 in 2023 with a T4 last year. The South Korean has made five consecutive cuts and ranks third in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green during the solid run.

I also particularly value his improvement on the greens here last year. An gained +0.79 true strokes putting to rank 19th in the field, so if his putter heats up again, the ball-striking will do the heavy lifting.

CJ CUP Byron Nelson prop picks

Top German pick: Stephan Jaeger
+130 at DraftKings

Stephan Jaeger has played the weekend in five consecutive events and ranks sixth in this field in true strokes gained on approach during the run. He's also proven he can golf his ball around TPC Craig Ranch with consecutive Top 20s the past two years.

Currently, the only weakness in his game is driving accuracy, and he ranks 124th in true strokes gained off the tee.

This could be just the track to kick-start improvement, though. Jaeger paced the field in true strokes gained off the tee in the 2024 Byron Nelson and ranked fourth in 2023. The sight lines clearly fit Jaeger’s eye, so I’m expecting another strong finish this week.

Finishing position pick: Ryo Hisatsune Top 40
-110 at bet365

Ryo Hisatsune is cruising along an impressive run with a pair of Top 5s and two more Top 20s over his past five tournaments, and he’s gained true strokes across the board during the stretch for well-rounded ranks of 19th in this field in true strokes gained tee-to-green and 16th in putting.

Ranking 17th on the PGA Tour in adjusted scoring average this season reinforces his strong play, and Hisatsune is also a DP World Tour winner with three more worldwide victories on his resume. Of course, he also finished T13 in his Byron Nelson debut last season.

CJ CUP Byron Nelson first-round pick

Round 1 pick: Cameron Davis Top Australasian
+240 at bet365

There are only four other Australasians in the field this week, and Cameron Davis ranks ahead of his countrymen in both the DataGolf rankings and FedEx Cup standings ahead of the Byron Nelson. I also particularly value Davis ranking third on the PGA Tour in birdie-or-better percentage this season.

Additionally, while his T32 in the Zurich Classic doesn’t jump off the page, he did finish T13 in the stacked-field RBC Heritage and ranked eighth in both true strokes gained around-the-green and putting. This is a birdie track, so if the short game carries over, he’ll cash in on plenty of scoring opportunities and go low in Thursday's opening round.
