The Empire State produced a weekly sports betting handle under $500 million for the first time since late February.
Key takeaways
- New York operators enjoyed just the sixth double-digit win rate of 2025.
- No Empire State online sportsbook saw a week-over-week handle increase.
- FanDuel produced its biggest profit week since the Super Bowl.
The New York Gaming Commission reported the nine online operators generated $474.4 million in wagers during the week ending April 13, down 15.6% from the previous week. The latest weekly handle, including Florida’s win over Houston in the NCAA men’s championship game, also decreased 2.6% from the same week in 2024.
A 10.1% hold did lead to $47.8 million in gross revenue, up $3.4 million from the previous week. It’s the first double-digit win rate since the week ending Feb. 23, the last time handle dipped below $500 million, and the sixth year-to-date.
Operators surpassed $40 million in gross income in five out of the last six weeks, but none of the nine online sportsbooks saw a week-over-week handle increase.
Big boys take fewer wagers
FanDuel led all New York sports betting operators with a $179.8 million weekly handle, but the amount wagered was down 15% from the Final Four week. It’s FanDuel’s lowest Empire State handle in nearly two months.
The online operator, however, enjoyed a 12.2% hold to produce $21.9 million in gross revenue, FanDuel’s highest profit week since the Super Bowl.
DraftKings generated $163.5 million in wagers during the week ending April 13, $25 million less than the previous week. The online book’s 9.2% hold led to $15 million in gross revenue, a 9% week-over-week decrease.
Calling
Fanatics Sportsbook finished third in New York with a $38.6 million weekly handle. BetMGM was fourth with $34.1 million in wagers, followed by Caesars at $32.6 million.
Fanatics and BetMGM both produced over $3 million in gross revenue, but less than the previous week.
ESPN BET was the only other operator to generate more than $10 million in wagers, but the online sportsbook’s $11.9 million handle was down 24% from the previous week. BetRivers accounted for $9.3 million of the total handle, but its $900,287 gross income was nearly $100,000 more than ESPN BET’s weekly profit.
