Premier League predictions for Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest
My best bet: Both teams to score and Over 2.5 goals (-125 at Caesars)
My analysis
Monday’s sole Premier League games see Tottenham welcome Nottingham Forest to town, in a game that both teams really need to win.
The home side enters this match 15th in the Premier League table, and while they won’t get relegated, thanks to the terrible form of the bottom three, it’s not an acceptable position for a club like Spurs to be in.
There have been some signs of hope for Ange Postecoglou, and Thursday’s win over Frankfurt gave him breathing room. The team has qualified for the semi-finals of the Europa League.
They only have small Norweigan club Bodo/Glimt to beat to seal a spot in the final, and need to use these next few Premier League games to get their team right and ready, and full of confidence for Europe.
Meanwhile Nottingham Forest have Europe on their mind in a total different way.
They dropped from third in the Premier League table to fourth last week and with two back-to-back defeats and with Man City, Chelsea and Aston Villa, all close behind, they need to get back to winning ways if they want to finish in the Champions League spots.
The fans would have taken finishing seventh before the season, but after being in the UCL slots for the majority of the campaign, it would be a real gut punch to blow it in the final weeks of the season.
Picking a winner is hard here with both teams out of form, so our best bet focuses on something that really should happen: both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
Tottenham have a strong attack, with Dejan Kulusevski, Brennan Johnson, and Dominic Solanke all available this Monday. There is also an outside chance of seeing Son Heung-Min.
Spurs have scored 60 goals this season, the most in the bottom half of the table and the fourth most in the entire league.
We’ve seen both teams score in a staggeringly high 75% of games at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and there have been a lot of goals, too, with over 2.5 goals landing in all but four games at the stadium all season.
Forest come into this off form, with Chris Wood yet to get back to his pre-injury form, but this is a team who are often involved in goals.
They’ve only had "both teams to score" in 50% of their road games this year, but it has landed in their past four away games, which shows how they’ve opened up in recent weeks.
Over 2.5 goals happens far more regularly with 68.8% of Forest’s games away from the City Ground hitting that mark, including their past six and 10 of their past 12 on the road in total.
Both teams are desperate to get back to winning ways, but season-long data and recent trends point towards this game being full of goals, so we’re backing both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest same-game parlay (SGP)
Both teams to score and Over 2.5 goals
Elliot Anderson to commit 1+ fouls
Pape Sarr to commit 1+ fouls
In addition to our best bet for the game, we’re also backing two players to commit one or more fouls each. The first of those is Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson.
The 22-year-old has had an impressive season and has firmly established himself following his move from Newcastle. He’s a great tackler, but that does mean he sometimes gives up fouls.
He’s averaging 1.49 fouls committed per 90 minutes in the Premier League, and given the midfield battle ahead, that should happen again.
The second player we’re picking will be wearing the white of Spurs and that’s Pape Sarr.
The Senegalese midfielder has plenty of positive attributes but at times has real issues with his tackling. He’s averaging 1.55 fouls per 90 minutes played in the Premier League and should oblige here.
