The Minnesota Lynx sit atop the WNBA standings, but do not let that hide from you how much of a disadvantage they faced in the last month. Minnesota played 10 games in 20 days before the WNBA All-Star Break, including two games last week against the Chicago Sky.

The eased schedule will help the league leaders in coming weeks, but perhaps not just yet.

My Sky vs. Lynx predictions and WNBA picks anticipate a relatively close game, in some part because of Minnesota’s overall fatigue after the party in Indianapolis. Tip comes at 8 ET on Tuesday, July 22.

Sky vs Lynx predictions

My Sky vs Lynx best bet: Sky +16 (-116 at DraftKings)

The Minnesota Lynx are better than the Chicago Sky, and they are better than they looked in recent weeks. Playing 10 games in 20 days wore out Minnesota, and it increasingly showed as the All-Star Break approached.

The Lynx were a mere 3-3 against the spread in the final parts of that stretch, including 1-2 ATS against the Sky. Chicago prevailed outright in one of those games, and all three were tight late.

At some point, Minnesota’s edges over Chicago tend to show, but when tired, that takes longer.

And the Lynx should still be tired. Three All-Stars were joined by reserve guard Natisha Hiedeman in Indianapolis, and they became the center of attention all weekend. Courtney Williams and Hiedeman hosted a 72-hour live stream that effectively became the defining item of the weekend.

Suffice it to say, there was plenty of partying on the live stream. Deservedly so, but still undeniably so. Professional athletes have advantages in recovery, beginning with a private jet on Sunday, but there are still limits to those bounce-backs. Williams, in particular, may need a few nights off mentally, and as soon as your floor general may be mentally worn out, there should be doubt in covering a 16-point spread.

Chicago stayed within this margin in all three matchups before the break. A fourth should be expected.

Sky vs Lynx same-game parlay (SGP)

Sky +16

Courtney Williams Under 14.5 points

Courtney Williams Under 6.5 assists

Courtney Williams is a chaos agent. Her intensity often provides the difference for the Lynx. And sometimes it costs them.

This may be a moment that costs them. If nothing else, Williams’s busy and loud weekend may require some rest tonight. The Lynx simply need a win; they do not need to cover this spread. Lessened minutes should still get a win, but at the cost of any Williams’s stats.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
