We're back to reality as the WNBA wraps up their All-Star festivities with teams getting back to business for a push to the playoffs.
The Seattle Storm (14-9) are one of those teams with sights set on the postseason as they welcome the Dallas Wings (6-17) to town for tonight's matchup.
It's the home team's defense that's the primary focus for my Wings vs. Storm predictions. Let's dive right into my WNBA picks for Tuesday, July 22.
Wings vs Storm predictions
My Wings vs Storm best bet: Under 164.5 (-105 at BetMGM)
The Seattle Storm have been putting on defensive masterclasses as of late, and as they face the Dallas Wings for the third time this season, I'm foreseeing that there will be another showing of that tonight.
I'm playing the Under in this matchup for numerous reasons. The most obvious one would be because the previous two contests between these two teams hit the Under, and I'm predicting that trend will continue.
On May 19, the Storm and Wings hit the Under by 17.5 points, while their meeting on June 3 went for the Under by six points. Expect a similar outcome, especially with a Dallas team that has gone 0-2 when facing Seattle so far this season.
The Storm are looking to build on their momentum after taking down the Golden State Valkyries before the All-Star break, where they managed to keep them to shooting a mere 31.7% from the field.
Seattle only allowed 58 points to be scored by Golden State, which was their season-best.
If the Storm are able to hold off a feisty team like the Valkyries, who has stomped on the scene like no other in their debut campaign, then they can manage to stave off a Wings team that still hasn't found their footing at the halfway mark of the season.
Paige Bueckers pick: Keeping the rookie quiet
My Paige Bueckers best bet: Under 17.5 points (-130 at BetMGM)
Paige Bueckers missed the last meeting when the Wings faced the Storm due to concussion protocol, but she's fresh off of her first All-Star experience and will be in the lineup for Dallas' first game back from break.
The optimist in me wants to suggest that Paige will be Paige and will be able to play her game without a worry.
However, the realist in me sees what Seattle can do and with veterans such as Skylar Diggins, Nneka Ogwumike, and Erica Wheeler on deck; there's no way for the rookie to outdo them.
I'm rolling with the Under for Bueckers' points prop as the Storm will send a torrent of defense her way to keep her quiet on offense throughout the night.
Wings vs Storm same-game parlay (SGP)
From the Storm's defense to what Bueckers can (or won't be able to) do tonight, we've covered most bases.
But there's one player, in particular, that I'm eyeing that can get the offense in motion for Seattle, and that's Gabby Williams.
Williams is due for a bounce-back game. The team's third-leading scorer has been flying under the radar when it comes to Seattle's offensive production after recording just four points against the Valkyries and six points in their July 13 contest facing the Mystics.
Tonight's a sweet spot for Williams to get back on track. As another All-Star coming straight off the plane from Indiana, the break was likely the reinvigoration that she needed, and there's no better team for her to do that against than the Wings.
Williams registered 18 and 17 points against Dallas this season, and I expect her to get back into her bag to bring another version of that performance in front of the home crowd.
Go for the Over on her points prop to round out tonight's parlay.
