The AL West-leading Houston Astros are riding a four-game win streak, and they’re poised to pad their record tonight with the struggling Athletics in town.

With the A's in the midst of a losing skid, my A’s vs. Astros predictions forecast Houston’s big-name bats feasting as they begin a seven-game homestand.

Check out my MLB picks for this July 24 divisional battle, with first pitch set for 8:10 p.m. ET at Daikin Park.

A's vs Astros prediction

My A's vs Astros best bet: Jose Altuve Over 1.5 total bases (+130 at bet365)

After a pedestrian time at the plate by his high standards through the first three months of the season, Jose Altuve has been cooking in July. He’s posted a .371 batting average and a 1.122 OPS this month, and the Over 1.5 bases for Altuve feels like the best prop on the board for tonight’s clash with the Athletics.

Setting the tone at the top of the Houston Astros order, Altuve has seven hits across his last four outings, including a pair of singles in yesterday’s victory over the Diamondbacks, and 60 of his 106 hits this season have come at Daikin Park.

Then there’s his record against A's starter Luis Severino in a significant sample size. Altuve is 13-for-43 in that head-to-head matchup, and Severino enters this contest with a 5.10 ERA. The veteran has given up 5+ runs in four of his past five starts — that spells trouble against an Astros team that sits fourth in the majors in hits.

While lefties have given Altuve some trouble this year, he’s been Mr. Reliable against right-handed pitching, posting a .291 batting average. Whether he sets up in the outfield or gets the DH assignment, Altuve is the danger man for Houston, and I’m riding the hot bat in this AL West showdown.

A's vs Astros same-game parlay (SGP)

Jose Altuve Over 1.5 total bases

Astros moneyline

Brent Rooker Over 0.5 hits

The Astros are 33-19 at home this year, and I’m following that trend for my SGP, particularly with the A’s losing four of Severino’s last five starts. Three of their past four losses have come by 4+ runs.

Brent Rooker has been a consistent source of offense for the A’s, leading the team with 21 homers. If anyone can spark the visitors, it’s him. Rooker had two hits in yesterday’s loss to the Rangers, and he’s delivered 11 RBI this month.
