My analysis
The Portland Trail Blazers and the Utah Jazz are both looking for rare winning streaks.
Portland is fresh off a 141-88 thrashing of the Charlotte Hornets as six-point home favorites, and Utah upset the Houston Rockets, winning outright 124-116 as 7.5-point home underdogs.
While both teams feel good heading into this matchup, the Blazers look better positioned to keep the good times rolling — not just because they're 5.5-point road favorites.
Portland has quietly been playing well for a while now, going 11-5 straight up and 12-4 against the spread over its last 16 games.
It has begun with the development of young players. The combination of Anfernee Simons, Toumai Camara, and Deni Avdija has looked great together. With Shaedon Sharpe and Scoot Henderson coming off the bench, the Blazers have scoring on the floor at all times.
Since the beginning of February, the Blazers have ranked 13th in offensive rating, averaging 116.3 points per game. I like their chances of keeping the scoreboard lit tonight.
The Jazz are coming off a win, but it was just their fourth since Jan. 15, and the biggest culprit has been their defense. Utah enters this Northwest Division matchup ranked dead last in the NBA regarding defensive rating and 28th in scoring defense.
However, the Jazz have been particularly bad recently. Over the last eight games, they have allowed an NBA-worst 126.1 points per game, surrendering 119 or more seven times.
It doesn’t help that John Collins and Jordan Clarkson are both still day-to-day, and Lauri Markkanen and Walker Kessler have already been ruled out.
Not to mention the tank is on as the Jazz are jockeying for position with the Pelicans, Hornets, and Wizards for one of the top draft picks. That all adds up to the Jazz not wanting to improve that league-worst defense.
The Blazers have an offensive identity, and the Jazz don’t play defense. Give me the Blazers to go Over their team total of 119.5.

After what felt like wasted years with the Wizards, it looks like Deni Avdija has come into his own as a member of the Blazers. Avdija has career highs in points (14.8) and PER this season.
He’s been in a groove lately, putting up 16.6 points per game over his last 12 games. Give me the Over on his point total of 16.5 against a team he put up 27 against the previous time they met.
And lastly, with no Walker Kessler and Lauri Markkanen, and maybe no John Collins, someone is going to have to rebound for the Jazz.
Let’s go with rookie Kyle Filipowski. He’s put up good rebounding numbers when he’s had extended minutes and is averaging 9.4 rebounds per 36 minutes.
