It’s time for the 117th meeting between the Washington Huskies and the Washington State Cougars as the 2025 iteration of the Apple Cup goes down on the Palouse.

Jedd Fisch and the Huskies are bent on revenge after last year’s upset loss, but can they win by margin on the road in Pullman?

See why my Washington vs. Washington State predictions and college football picks for Saturday, September 20 are backing the Huskies.

Washington vs Washington State prediction

Washington vs Washington State best bet: Washington -20.5 (-102)

I’m usually hesitant to expect a blowout in a rivalry game. This year’s Apple Cup is an exception, however, as the Washington Huskies look like the far superior team and will be highly motivated after last year’s 24-19 upset loss.

The Washington State Cougars have looked dreadful through the first three games of the Jimmy Rogers era, scoring 19.7 ppg while allowing 27.3.

They do have a 2-1 record, but were nearly defeated by FCS school Idaho in the opener. Wazzu hasn’t been able to move the ball (111th in EPA per play) or stop opposing teams (96th on defense), so there aren’t many positives.

Rogers hasn’t decided on a starting quarterback for this contest after playing three signal callers in last week’s humiliating 59-10 loss to North Texas.

The Huskies rank 21st in EPA per play allowed on defense. They’re generally at risk if teams can run on them (91st in EPA per rush allowed), but the Cougars don’t appear to pose that threat (2.4 yards per rush; 131st in rushing success rate).

Quarterback Demond Williams is a star, as are skill players Jonah Coleman and Denzel Boston. They’ll lead Washington to a comfortable victory.

Washington vs Washington State same-game parlay

Washington State has been outscored 21-10 in the first quarter of its games this season. Getting out to a slow start again would mean immediate trouble, as the offense has proven incapable of overcoming deficits.

Both teams play at a methodical pace, with the Huskies ranking 95th in plays per minute and the Cougars not far ahead at 84th, so this game should be played at a slow tempo.
