The Presidents’ Trophy-winning Winnipeg Jets have struggled mightily on the road in the playoffs, losing all four games while conceding at least five goals in each.
That alarming trend is one reason my NHL picks are more focused on the Dallas Stars’ side of things with Jets vs. Stars anytime goalscorer picks for May 13.
NHL anytime goalscorer picks for Jets vs Stars Game 4
-
Jason Robertson (+250)
-
Gabriel Vilardi (+255)
-
Tyler Seguin (+275)
Jets vs Stars anytime goalscorer props for tonight
Jason Robertson anytime goal (+250 at Bet99)
Jason Robertson finished the season on a torrid scoring pace, potting 16 goals over his final 30 games. He’s yet to score since returning to Dallas’ lineup in Game 1 but the signs are there an outburst could be coming.
The training wheels were on in his return but, even so, he’s up to sixth in ice time among Stars forwards in this series. He’s getting legitimate run.
He’s had some opportunities as well. Robertson’s recorded 12 shots and five scoring chances while helping the Stars tilt the ice at 5-on-5. They’ve controlled 63% of the expected goals share during Robertson’s minutes.
While Mikko Rantanen is now the star of the show — no pun intended — it’s important to recall only 17 players scored more goals than Robertson in the regular season. He’s a very dangerous finisher and he usually doesn’t go very long between goals.
Gabriel Vilardi anytime goal (+255 at Bet99)
Gabriel Vilardi has caused the Stars real problems through the first three games of this series. He’s picked up three primary points and leads all Jets players in scoring chances, high-danger opportunities, and rebounds created.
He’s done a great job of finding space around the net and generating looks in tight, which is where he’s at his best.
Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor are both excellent passers who can distribute the puck when special attention is paid to taking their shots away. That should continue leading to a healthy dose of opportunities for Vilardi.
Tyler Seguin anytime goal (+275 at Bet99)
Tyler Seguin hasn’t hit the scoresheet in this series but he’s certainly had chances. Seguin has attempted 12 shots — tied for fifth-most on the team — and generated five high-danger looks, which is good for second on the Stars.
The Mason Marchment/Matt Duchene/Seguin line benefits greatly from the balance of the Stars, which leads to them playing a lot of their minutes against Bottom-6 players and depth defenders.
The Stars posted a near 70 xGF% with Seguin on the ice at 5-on-5 in Game 3. With home ice in their back pocket again, Seguin should see similar matchups and threaten accordingly.
He could also benefit from the struggles of Connor Hellebuyck, who has posted a miserable .772 save percentage on the road in the playoffs.
