The season is on the line for the Vegas Golden Knights in Sin City on Wednesday, May 14.

Vegas trails the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 in Round 2, with my Oilers vs. Golden Knights predictions and NHL picks anticipating a low-scoring bout between the Pacific Division rivals at T-Mobile Arena in Game 5.

Who will win Oilers vs Golden Knights Game 5?

Edmonton has taken over this series, and the Oil have been scorching at 5-on-5 during their active 7-1 heater with a 55.2 Corsi For percentage and 60.2 expected goals percentage.

It’s also been a well-rounded attack with superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl being propped up by a bounty of secondary scoring. I expect Edmonton to close out this series.

Oilers vs Golden Knights prediction

My Oilers vs Golden Knights pick: Under 6.5 (+110 at BET99)

The Vegas Golden Knights allowed just 2.41 goals per home game during the regular season, so surrendering 3.6 per during the playoffs is a sizable uptick. The climb also comes despite Vegas allowing exactly 2.53 expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 during both the regular season and through five home postseason games.

A big factor has been Golden Knights starter Adin Hill playing ho-hum hockey at home with a back-breaking .862 SV%, and his overall -5.6 goals saved above expected is second last this postseason.

So, with the season on the line, and Hill posting a solid .910 SV% at T-Mobile Arena during the regular season, I’m expecting Vegas and Hill to do the heavy lifting for this Under.

Of course, the Edmonton Oilers have also shown up since going down 0-2 to the Los Angeles Kings in Round 1. The Oil have won seven of eight white dominating 5-on-5 play with a 55.2 Corsi For percentage and 60.2 expected goals percentage.

The Edmonton goaltending situation is also of mild concern, but Stuart Skinner just stood tall for a 23-save shutout, and the Oilers have limited the Golden Knights to just 10.66 expected goals through four Round 2 contests.

Under 6.5

Adin Hill Over 25.5 saves

As noted, the Oilers have been the better team in this series while tilting the ice in their favor and generating more quality scoring chances at 5-on-5. Depth has been huge for Edmonton, too.

The Oilers have 11 skaters with multiple points at 5-on-5, while the Golden Knights only have five.

In addition to the noted possession advantages, the Oilers have also averaged a healthy 34.6 shots per game during their noted 7-1 heater.

As a result, I expect Hill to see more than enough rubber to clear this saves total in Game 5.  He’s eyeing the highlighted statistical correction to his save percentage, too.
