The Indiana Fever’s special week began with Commissioner’s Cup silverware and continued with a ruthless 27-point victory over the Las Vegas Aces on Thursday – now they’ve got the struggling Los Angeles Sparks in their sights.
Despite promising flashes, L.A. is 3-7 in its last 10 games, and my Sparks vs. Fever predictions signal a big performance from an Indiana team that’s made some loud statements already in July.
Check out my WNBA picks for this July 5 showdown.
Will Caitlin Clark play today?
No. Caitlin Clark will miss her fifth straight game due to a groin injury.
Sparks vs Fever predictions
My Sparks vs Fever best bet: Fever -5.5 (-110 at Caesars)
Put simply, these two teams are heading in opposite directions. The Indiana Fever are 4-1 across their past five outings, climbing back above .500 in the process, and they ran the Las Vegas Aces out of the gym earlier this week despite Caitlin Clark’s absence.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Sparks are 3-6-1 ATS in their last 10 contests, and their upgraded core just hasn’t clicked with Kelsey Plum next to Dearica Hamby and Rickea Jackson. Though L.A. edged the last matchup between these teams, I’ll gladly lay a 5.5-point spread with Indiana tonight.
The Fever have relied heavily on efficient scoring from Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston without Clark running the offense, but the hosts’ recent defensive efforts might be even more of a difference-maker here. Indiana has held its last two opponents under the 60-point mark and forced 19 turnovers against A’ja Wilson and the Aces on Thursday.
Look for the 3-point line to be another swing factor in the Fever’s favor. They’re allowing the lowest 3-point percentage in the league (27%), and the Sparks made just five of their 19 attempts from beyond the arc last time out against the New York Liberty.
Four of L.A.’s five victories this year have come on the road, but I don’t see the visitors adding to that tally tonight.
Sparks vs Fever same-game parlay (SGP)
Mitchell has kept the Fever offense afloat this season, embracing the task of taking on some of Clark’s scoring. She’s poured in 20+ points in five of her last six games, including 25 points against Las Vegas earlier this week.
I also expect a busy night for Azurá Stevens on the glass. She’s averaging 8.3 RPG this year and has grabbed 7+ boards in five of her last six outings.
