It’s always exciting when a player enters the semifinal stage of a Grand Slam on home soil, and this year’s running of Roland Garros is no different.

Lois Boisson has come from seemingly nowhere to take out a few of the higher-ranked players on tour, and now she’ll be under the spotlight against a player who has had a ton of success at this tournament in Coco Gauff.

Let’s break it all down in our Boisson vs. Gauff prediction and free betting picks for Thursday, June 5.

Boisson vs Gauff prediction and best bet

Match analysis

We’ll explain a bit more about Boisson’s chances of making this competitive below, but this match should really be all about Gauff. The American has had her best-ever season on clay to this point, making the final in back-to-back 1000-level events in Madrid and Rome. There, she lost to World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka and then World No. 4 Jasmine Paolini, who was playing on home soil.

Those losses are nothing to shake a fist at, and the wins have been impressive as well. She took out Qinwen Zheng in a tight battle, twice beat a rising star in Mirra Andreeva, and also toppled Swiatek on clay.

This isn’t a match that will mirror those; Gauff should keep on dominating. She had to withstand a barrage of winners and big serves from Madison Keys last round and lived to tell the tale, and on the flip side, Boisson has been fortunate to face a weaker draw, which was headlined by Andreeva, who played a poor match perhaps due to some nerves.

This one should go to Gauff, and the only question is about whether or not she’ll win the one after.

Best best analysis

In theory, this should be a no-contest. But that’s just what the script says in theory. The fact of the matter is that Boisson has been living on clay this season, playing just three of her 28 contests away from the surface, and she’s only lost five times.

She hasn’t had the strongest draw, but she’s taken out some experienced players on this surface like Elise Mertens, and while Jessica Pegula isn’t known for her ability on this surface, she’s still one of the best in the world and entered as a massive favorite.

Boisson likes to work quickly in service games, which creates a bit of a hectic flow to things, and I think this could momentarily affect Gauff. She was also able to bring about 11 break points last time out against Andreeva, and Gauff’s serve has declined and arguably looks just as bad as Andreeva’s in the quarters.

I expect plenty of breaks from both players, and I think that should prevent Gauff from running away with this one. In a first-time meeting, too, we often see a close first set if it doesn’t wind up going to the underdog — and I like Boisson to keep playing free and easy just as she has all tournament long, as the underdog.
