HR picks for May 9
Pete Alonso (+235 at DraftKings)
Pete Alonso has been tearing the cover off the baseball in 2025, batting .328 with nine home runs and 34 RBI.
While the New York Mets superstar has just two long balls in his last seven games, he faces a favorable matchup against Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon. The Mets first baseman has already hit a home run off Taillon before, and seven of Alonso’s nine homers have come against right-handed pitchers.
The slugger has always swung it well against the Cubs with 15 bombs in just 34 appearances, so this bet is worth a look at Citi Field.
Austin Riley (+290 at DraftKings)
The Atlanta Braves remain without Ronald Acuna Jr., which means others have had to step up to keep this offense afloat.
Austin Riley is batting .286 with eight home runs and 25 RBIs, currently riding a seven-game hitting streak that includes a pair of homers.
Atlanta will face Pittsburgh Pirates starter Bailey Falter tonight — who, along with a 5.06 ERA, has given up six homers in just seven starts. Riley is just 2-for-9 against him, but Falter has also surrendered three bombs in each of his last three outings.
Considering 60.4% of Falter’s outs are fly balls, it’s only a matter of time until Riley gets one to leave the ballpark.
Shohei Ohtani (+230 at DraftKings)
Shohei Ohtani has already gone deep 11 times, and the Los Angeles Dodgers slugger is lighting it up lately, smacking four homers in his last six games.
The Japanese phenom left the yard on Thursday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Dodgers face them again tonight. Arizona hands the ball to lefty Eduardo Rodriguez, who has struggled with a 5.92 ERA and has allowed seven home runs.
Ohtani is 3-for-13 lifetime against the southpaw, boasting a homer in the process. Considering how often he’s going deep, it’s hard to overlook this pick.
