Sunday afternoon will see the rubber match between the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros as the AL West rivals meet at Daikin Park in their final game before the All-Star break.

Nathan Eovaldi and Hunter Brown will take the mound for their respective teams, and our MLB odds indicate it could be a low-scoring affair.

Find out why Corey Seager could be a problem for Brown in our Rangers vs. Astros predictions and MLB picks for Sunday, July 13.

Rangers vs Astros prediction

My Rangers vs Astros best bet: Corey Seager Over 1.5 hits/runs/RBI (-109 at Caesars)

Last night was just the third time in Corey Seager’s previous 20 games that he failed to register multiple hits/runs/RBI. But it’s worth noting that three of his five appearances came against lefty Framber Valdez, and a fourth came against lefty reliever Bennett Sousa.

The reason that’s important to note comes down to Seager’s splits. The left-handed hitting shortstop is hitting just .234 on the season in same-sided matchups, with 22 strikeouts in just 82 appearances. In comparison, he’s hitting .286 vs RHP with 32 walks drawn compared to 34 strikeouts.

Seager is also red hot, having posted splits of .390/.510/.732 in July. Last night ended a five-game multi-hit streak and marked just the third time in 11 games that he didn’t score a run.

Hunter Brown won’t be an easy pitcher for him to get to, but Seager’s had success against him. In 17 meetings, Seager is hitting .313 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI while striking out just four times.

And Brown has shown signs of regressing to the mean this month. In two July starts, he’s allowed 12 hits and walked four over 12 innings, and surrendered three home runs while seeing a dip in his strikeout numbers.

Seager has the opposite-side advantage, in a hitter’s park with shallow fences, and is getting on base against RHP with high frequency. I’ll back him to get back on track here.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Rangers vs Astros same-game parlay (SGP)

Corey Seager Over 1.5 hits+runs+rbi

Marcus Semien Over 1.5 hits+runs+rbi

Isaac Paredes Under 1.5 hits+runs+rbi

Given the strain on the bullpens from the last two games, I expect we’ll see the starters asked to go longer than usual. That’s good news for Marcus Semien, who has 12 hits and a walk in 23 career appearances vs Brown while striking out just four times.

Only one of those hits has been for extra bases, so we’ll go with hits + runs + rbi instead of total bases here.

On the flip side, Isaac Paredes will not want to see Nathan Eovaldi any more than he has to. He’s struck out 10 times in 20 meetings, with just a pair of singles to his credit. He also has just two hits, two runs, and no RBI in the series after going 0-for-4 with a run last night.
