Capitals vs Hurricanes player props for May 12
Dylan Strome Over 0.5 points (-160 at Sports Interaction)
Dylan Strome led the Washington Capitals in the regular season with 82 points (29 goals, 53 assists) in as many games. He’s improved upon that point-per-game pace in the playoffs with 10 points in eight contests.
The Hurricanes have been able to suffocate the Capitals thus far, with just four Washington goals in three games. However, the Caps have been opportunistic in their play style against a Canes team that likes to control the puck.
For instance, the Hurricanes dominated the shot attempts (66-39) and shots on goal (22-17) at 5-on-5 in Game 3, but the Capitals had more high-danger chances (12-10) and expected goals (2.4-1.73) in that 50:52 at 5-on-5.
Strome stepped up in a big way in the first round against the Devils, and the Capitals aren’t going to go away easily. The top-line center should be able to find the scoresheet as the Caps look to even up the series again on Monday night.
Sebastian Aho Over 0.5 assists (+110 at Sports Interaction)
When you think about the best centers in the league, not many people mention Sebastian Aho despite him being the top pivot on one of the most consistent teams in the NHL over the last few years.
The 27-year-old centerman had 74 points (45 assists) in 79 games this season after putting up 89 points (53 assists) in the year prior. In fact, dating back to the 2021-22 season, Aho has the 26th-most points in the league.
Aho is once again being a point-per-game player in the playoffs as well, with nine points in eight postseason games. He’s a key part of the Carolina Hurricanes’ top line and power-play unit, which has become crucial to their postseason success.
Home-ice advantage has been important for not only the Hurricanes as a team but also for Aho. He had 45 points (28 assists) in 40 home games this season as opposed to 29 points (17 assists) in 39 road contests.
Andrei Svechnikov Over 2.5 shots (-150 at Sports Interaction)
Andrei Svechnikov has played up to his potential in these playoffs so far. Only Mikko Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon have scored more goals than the Hurricanes winger. And Svechnikov has 29 shots on goal in his eight contests thus far.
Svechnikov has had at least three shots on goal in five of eight games in these playoffs, including four of the last five. He’s been firing the puck a lot against the Capitals as well, with 23 shot attempts through three games.
The Hurricanes are a team that thrives on controlling and shooting the puck from all angles. Svechnikov has been able to find himself in a good position to take advantage of the Capitals' defense and test netminder Logan Thompson.
Carolina should be following that blueprint once again as it looks to take a 3-1 series lead on home ice. Look for Svechnikov to rack up the SOG at home.
