My Marlins vs Cubs best bet: Cubs -1.5 (-120 at Caesars)
It’s been a struggle of late for the Chicago Cubs, who have dropped five of their last seven games.
Surprisingly, the team that leads the majors in runs per game at 6.11 has gone cold over this stretch, tallying just 10 runs across those five losses.
They turn to Colin Rea on the mound, who’s 2-0 with a 2.43 ERA. He was shelled by San Francisco last time out, chased after five innings allowing eight hits and four earned runs in an eventual 14-5 loss.
There are few better get-right opponents than the Miami Marlins, though. Since reeling off three wins in a row from April 20-22, Miami has just four wins in its last 16 games.
The latest was a 4-2 loss to the White Sox Sunday, marking the fifth straight series they’ve lost.
The brunt of their failure stems from owning baseball’s second-worst ERA at a massive 5.70. Righty Cal Quantrill will try to right the ship, but he’s 2-3 with a bloated 7.11 ERA.
Like Chicago, Miami’s offense has had a power outage of late, totaling eight runs over the last four games.
I like the Cubs’ bats coming to life again though after dealing with the Mets and Giants, two teams in the Top 7 in ERA.
