Marlins vs Cubs Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Valente Bellozo hasn't had a long leash and is facing a tough lineup with several dangerous left-handed bats. Expect a short start tonight in Chicago for the Marlins hurler.

The Miami Marlins look to even their three-game series when they meet the Chicago Cubs tonight at Wrigley Field.

Miami starter Valente Bellozo has pitched into the fifth inning only once, and my Marlins vs. Cubs predictions expect another early hook.

Read on for my MLB picks for Tuesday, May 13.

Marlins vs Cubs prediction

My Marlins vs Cubs best bet: Valente Bellozo Under 14.5 outs (+133 at Caesars)

Miami Marlins right-hander Valente Bellozo has a tall order in front of him today against a Chicago Cubs club that rips right-handed pitching apart.

The 25-year-old Mexicali, Mexico native, threw 5 1/3 innings of one-hit ball at home against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his last start, but that was his first 5+ inning start of Bellozo’s campaign.

Bellozo’s problems begin by getting behind in the count. He’s thrown a first-pitch ball against 37 of 76 batters faced, and the lack of a strikeout pitch is why his xFIP is nearly six runs per nine innings.

He has allowed fewer than five hits in all five starts, but he’s primarily a fly-ball pitcher with a high hard contact rate, and that’s no bueno against this Cubs lineup.

Despite the Cubs’ recent offensive silence, they’ve scored five runs twice in the last five. Chicago's .751 OPS vs. RHP could spell early trouble for Bellozo.

We’re getting a great price for a market Bellozo has cleared once in five starts. The Cubs' bats are heating up, and their high walk rate and .278 batting average with runners in scoring position likely means a short night for the Marlins' righty.

Marlins vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Valente Bellozo Under 3.5 strikeouts

Kyle Tucker 2+ total bases

Michael Busch 1+ total bases

Pitcher outs aren’t available in Caesars' SGP markets, but the early hook should lead to fewer strikeouts, and lefty-sticks Kyle Tucker and Michael Busch could do some ripping today.

Bellozo struck out seven Dodgers in his last start, but he needed 5 1/3 frames to get that many. He’s striking out seven per nine, but he's facing a Cubs team that strikes out 20% of the time against right-handed pitchers.

The Marlins' righty also allows a .323/.447/.558 slash line against lefty bats, which will open the door for Tucker and Busch.

Tucker has cleared 2+ total bases in six of his previous 10 games with six bombs and seven extra-base hits against righties.

Busch has boasted a .887 OPS across 116 at-bats against righties with all seven of his home runs coming in this split.
