The New York Mets and Baltimore Orioles meet this afternoon in the first game of a doubleheader after Wednesday’s rainout.

Charlie Morton has struggled this season, and although he’s improved lately, my Mets vs. Orioles predictions are expecting N.Y. to do damage against the former Braves righty.

Read more in my MLB picks for Thursday, July 10.

Mets vs Orioles prediction

My Mets vs Orioles best bet: Charlie Morton Over 2.5 earned runs (-110 at DraftKings)

When the Baltimore Orioles signed Charlie Morton in the offseason, the expectations were that they were getting an established starter at the MLB level with boatloads of experience. He’d step into their rotation and dominate, even at 41 years old.

However, it’s been the exact opposite.

Morton owns a 5.47 ERA, and was even demoted to the bullpen at one point due to his inconsistencies.

Morton has still struck out 84 batters in 77 1/3 innings of work, but otherwise he’s getting lit up, with opponents hitting .280 against him. Although he’s pitched a lot better over the last month, he comes up against a New York Mets lineup that knows him well.

Last year against New York, Morton compiled a 5.87 ERA across three starts, allowing 10 earned runs in just 15 1/3 frames. Sure, maybe he’s finding a groove, but I believe a familiar foe will bring Morton back down to earth today.

The Mets are hitting nearly .260 as a lineup versus Morton all-time.

Mets vs Orioles same-game parlay (SGP)

Charlie Morton Over 2.5 earned runs

Juan Soto anytime home run

Charlie Morton Over 5.5 strikeouts

Juan Soto has absolutely destroyed baseballs with Morton the mound; he’s 8-for-12 lifetime with three home runs. Morton has allowed 11 bombs this season in 17 appearances, and Soto is really heating up as of late.

The Dominican was 3-for-5 on Tuesday against the O’s, and has gone deep five times in his last 14 games.

Morton may be getting hit around the ballpark this season, but he’s still a strikeout pitcher.

The righty has sat down more than one hitter per nine innings in 2025 and has cashed the Over in punchouts in three of his last four outings, too.
