The Detroit Tigers have been one of the league’s best offensive teams this season, scoring an average of five runs per game.
Gleyber Torres has played a big part in that, hitting .279 with a .385 on base percentage in his first season with his new team.
My Tigers vs. Guardians predictions expect Torres to make his mark offensively in Game 2 of this three-game set.
Let’s break it all down with my MLB picks for July 5.
Tigers vs Guardians prediction
My Tigers vs Guardians best bet: Gleyber Torres Over 0.5 singles (-130 at Bet365)
Gleyber Torres has performed far better against left-handed pitching this season. He’s hitting .300 off lefties and sporting a solid .350 wOBA and 45% hard hit rate.
Those numbers drop off dramatically when facing righties, with Torres sporting a .272 average, .295 wOBA, and 36% hard hit rate.
The good news is Torres draws a lefty tonight in Logan Allen. Perhaps more importantly, a struggling lefty.
Allen owns a 4.85 FIP over the last month, good for 20th of today’s 30 projected starters. He has allowed a .284 average to right-handed batters in that time, far higher than the .174 average he’s held lefties to.
Torres has only gone back-to-back games without a single twice over the last 30 days, which is pretty impressive when playing near daily. This is a good spot for him to get right back on track.
Tigers vs Guardians same-game parlay (SGP)
Spencer Torkelson has hit for a ton of power this season, especially against left-handed pitchers. He’s homered in 25% of his games when facing a lefty starter. He profiles very well against Allen’s pitch mix as well, owning a .359 ISO against his three-most used pitches.
The Cleveland Guardians have lost nine of the last 10 and scored more than four runs only once in that span. If the Detroit Tigers’ hot offense can get to Logan Allen, it’ll be difficult for the Guardians to keep up.
