The Los Angeles Sparks have stumbled out of the blocks this WNBA season, bringing a three-game losing skid to the Lone Star State tonight.
However, my Sparks vs. Wings predictions believe the road underdogs are playing better basketball, and that will be reflected in my best WNBA picks for June 6, with tip-off scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET on ION.
Will Paige Buckers play tonight?
No, Paige Bueckers was ruled out again for tonight's game, marking her third straight absence while in the league's concussion protocol.
Sparks vs Wings predictions
My Sparks vs Wings best bet: Sparks +1.5 (-110 at bet365)
Expectations were high for the Los Angeles Sparks this year. The team had a core of great young players along with some savvy veterans, and the addition of Kelsey Plum gave the Sparks championship pedigree and a proven scorer.
The 2-6 start to the 2025 schedule is not what basketball fans in La-La Land wanted, but I will say that record isn’t as terrible as it looks on the surface.
The Sparks have been in plenty of close contests with some of the better teams in the league, boasting a net rating of -2.6, which is far better than other clubs sharing a similar losing record.
Los Angeles is overcoming a revamped scheme under new head coach Lynne Roberts in a jam-packed schedule, as well as having standout forward Rickea Jackson miss five of those games due to injuries and personal reasons.
Roberts and the Sparks have been off since the loss to the Phoenix Mercury on June 1, allowing them extended practice time to tighten the bolts before this trip to Dallas and welcome Jackson back into the fray.
“We have four days of practice, which sounds like training camp at this point. I can’t wait,” Roberts told the media. “I’m looking forward to that. We can kind of regroup and do some things, but that’s just part of it.”
Despite the losing skid, Los Angeles was able to draw positives in that rough stretch. Rookies Sarah Ashlee Barker and Liatu King were able to get more floor time and contributed well, adding depth to the Sparks roster.
The Dallas Wings are hoping No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers can get back on the floor after missing time due to a concussion. She’s a game-time decision heading into Friday.
Bueckers has missed the last two games, with the Wings offense boasting an advanced rating of 97.0 in those contests — a notable slip from the 104.5 rating in the first six games with Bueckers active.
Defensively, Dallas has been bad — with or without Paige. The Wings are 11th in defensive rating and giving up clean looks from beyond the arc, with foes connecting on 37.8% of 3-pointers.
My power ratings have Los Angeles as a -0.5 road favorite — with Bueckers in the lineup for Dallas. Should she be out, I’d make this closer to L.A. -2.
Sparks vs Wings same-game parlay (SGP)
The Sparks have had time to tighten the bolts and are getting Jackson back for a strong start to June.
Plum is projected to drop 20 or more on this weak Wings defense.
Siegrist has gotten extra run with Buckers out and has scored 11 points over 30-plus minutes the past two games.
