The St. Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies continue a three-game set tonight at Citizens Bank Park in “The City of Brotherly Love.”

Sonny Gray has historically had success against Philly, and my Cardinals vs. Phillies predictions explain why that will continue.

Cardinals vs Phillies prediction

My Cardinals vs Phillies best bet: Sonny Gray Over 5.5 strikeouts (-125 at bet365)

Sonny Gray is having a solid campaign as the St. Louis Cardinals’ ace, going 4-1 with a 3.50 ERA in eight starts. He’s only walked 11 in 46 1/3 innings of work while striking out 47 hitters. That will be my focus for tonight’s bet.

The right-hander has cashed the Over in Ks in three of his last four outings. Gray racked up eight strikeouts against the Pittsburgh Pirates last week and also sat down six New York Mets via the K in the start before that.

Gray has always had swing-and-miss stuff, and he’s more-or-less been at his best for most of the season so far.

The veteran has faced the Philadelphia Phillies a lot in his career. He owns a 3.41 ERA lifetime against them, striking out 42 batters in 37 innings.

Gray has held this current Philadelphia lineup to a .230 average across 148 at-bats with 50 strikeouts.

Gray will miss some bats tonight at Citizens Bank Park.

Cardinals vs Phillies same-game parlay (SGP)

Sonny Gray Over 5.5 strikeouts

Nick Castellanos Over 0.5 hits

Lars Nootbar Over 0.5 hits

Nick Castellanos is swinging it well for the Phillies in 2025, batting .280 with four homers and 21 RBIs. He’s cashed the Over in hits in six of his last eight games and had a pair of hits on Monday in a loss to the Cardinals.

The veteran has four multi-hit games during that span, and he’s had a bit of success against Gray, hitting .278. Philly is at home here and Castellanos swings it even better at Citizens Bank, posting a .297 average compared to .265 on the road.

St. Louis is surprisingly above .500, and Lars Nootbaar has been an important piece of their success. One of the more experienced players on the roster, Nootbaar is batting .250 with six long balls and 22 RBI.

He’s enjoying a five-game hitting streak and had two base knocks in Monday’s victory over the Phillies.
