Red Sox vs Tigers Prediction, Picks & Odds for Today’s MLB Game

Brayan Bello has been playing with fire despite his decent numbers since being activated from the IL. We like Gleyber Torres, Spencer Torkelson & Co. to pile up some runs.

The Boston Red Sox and Detroit Tigers play the second game of a three-game set at Comerica Park tonight.

Detroit hammered Boston 14-2 last night and my Red Sox vs. Tigers predictions are betting on another productive day from its offense.

Here are my best free MLB picks for this AL showdown on Tuesday, May 13.

Red Sox vs Tigers prediction

My Red Sox vs Tigers best bet: Tigers team total Over 3.5 (-135 at FanDuel)

Boston Red Sox starter Brayan Bello has a 2.02 ERA through four starts. However, he had a 4.49 ERA in 30 starts last year and his Statcast analytics suggest we'll see major regression.

Bello is in the bottom 15th percentile in expected ERA (5.53) and expected batting average (.285). He has also struggled with his control, walking 12 betters across 22 1/3 innings. It doesn't help that Bello has a group of atrocious fielders behind him. Boston has committed an MLB-worst 37 errors this year after ranking second-last in that metric last season.

That's bad news against a red-hot Detroit Tigers offense. The Tigers are fourth in the majors in scoring (5.43 runs per game) and sixth in OPS (.755). They've been even better lately, batting .285 with an OPS of .822 over the last 15 days.

Gleyber Torres (slashing .304/.375/.482) was signed in the offseason, giving Detroit another dangerous hitter to complement young stars Riley Greene and Spencer Torkelson. They're even getting production from the bottom of their lineup with Javier Baez (.313/.347/.461) looking like his former All-Star self after a few poor seasons.

The Tigers have cashed the Over on their team total in 22 of their last 33 games (+9.00 Units / 22% ROI) and their team total looks too low today at just 3.5.

Red Sox vs Tigers same-game parlay (SGP)

Tigers team total Over 3.5

Javier Baez 1+ hits

Rafael Devers 2+ total bases

Tyler Holton will work as the opener for Detroit before likely turning things over to Keider Montero. Holton has been knocked around lately, (4.70 ERA in his last six relief appearances) while Montero is in the bottom 20th percentile in xERA (5.46) and xBA (.276) through four starts.

Boston's Rafael Devers will have the platoon advantage against Montero. The three-time All-Star started the year in a slump but has been red-hot lately, slashing .330/.456/.604 over his last 25 games.

The Over 1.5 total bases for Devers is priced at +130 and is graded a five-star play according to the THE BAT X, which is projecting 1.9 total bases for the Red Sox slugger.

Meanwhile, Baez has picked up a hit in nine of his last 11 games, batting .356 over that span.
