The week winds to a close as the Texas Rangers visit the San Diego Padres on Sunday Night Baseball.

Jack Leiter takes the mound for the visitors, and his reverse platoon splits are worth a closer inspection. Fernando Tatis stands to benefit, so I’m targeting his props with tonight's Rangers vs. Padres predictions and MLB picks.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Rangers vs Padres same-game parlay (SGP)

Fernando Tatis Over 1.5 total bases

Under 8.5

Padres moneyline

The San Diego Padres are using David Morgan as an opener, so we should see plenty of their effective bullpen (3.33 ERA and 1.22 WHIP). Both teams are trending to the Under — the Texas Rangers have cashed the Under in 56 of their last 89 games, while San Diego has done so in 43 of its last 74 games.

Texas hasn’t experienced much success against San Diego (2-14 in the last 16 meetings) or with Jack Leiter on the mound (1-6 in his last six starts).

Rangers vs Padres prediction for Sunday Night Baseball

My Rangers vs Padres best bet: Fernando Tatis Over 1.5 total bases (-103 at Caesars)

Jack Leiter takes the mound for the Rangers tonight. The 25-year-old hurler possesses elite stuff (109 Stuff+) but has yet to develop into a complete pitcher, struggling with location (91 Location+ and 10.5% walk rate) and allowing loud contact (13th percentile barrel rate, fifth percentile average exit velocity).

Texas has lost each of the former Vanderbilt product’s last five starts, during which he’s posted a 5.47 ERA. Leiter has extreme reverse splits — right-handers are slashing .271/.352/.450 against him en route to a 1.53 WHIP.

That leads us to Fernando Tatis. The Padres star also has reverse splits, hitting .288/.374/.508 with a 150 wRC+ against RHP. The 26-year-old has crushed four-seamers (151 wRC+) and sliders (181 wRC+), Leiter’s two most-utilized pitches (combined 76.3%) against righties.

He’ll also sprinkle in sinkers (13.4%), but that’s the other pitch Tatis absolutely loves to see (170 wRC+).

Once things make it to the bullpen, Tatis still has a favorable draw against a struggling Texas arm barn with a 4.60 xFIP and 4.10 SIERA across the last 20 days.
