So far, the interleague showdown between West division leaders has been all Houston, who look for a series sweep in Los Angeles on Sunday, July 6 against the Dodgers.

Our Astros vs. Dodgers prediction has L.A. likely salvaging the series, but our MLB picks find better juice betting on the total.

Astros vs Dodgers prediction

My Astros vs Dodgers best bet: Over 9 (-120 at Caesars)

The books know that the Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the best home teams in baseball. At 33-16, only the New York Mets have as many home wins as L.A.

This is just the third series all year that the Dodgers have lost at home, and only the Angels can lay claim to a sweep at Dodger Stadium this season. That’s why the moneyline odds are a less-than-stellar -178 for the Dodgers to avoid the sweep.

So let’s stick to the total at 9 (-120), which these teams have topped over the first two games of the series. Friday was an 18-1 obliteration in favor of the Houston Astros, followed with an Astros 6-4 win on Saturday.

That’s now the fifth time in the last seven head-to-head meetings that the Over has cashed, and the fifth time in six games in L.A.

The Dodgers are baseball’s highest scoring team, pumping out 5.54 runs per game, and an even more impressive six runs per game at home.

Houston may only rank 16th, but they are averaging 10 runs a game over their last three.

Caesars QuickPick: Our Astros vs Dodgers same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 9

Dodgers -1.5

Ryan Gusto Over 4.5 strikeouts

A bet on L.A. winning by two or more runs is a read on the recent head-to-head history between these teams.

The scoring difference has been Over 1.5 runs in four of the last five games. If L.A. does happen to avoid the sweep, it should be pretty convincing.

We finish with Houston starter Ryan Gusto’s strikeout total of 4.5.

He went Under this total last time out against the Cubs, but that is the recent outlier, as he had struck out at least seven in three straight outings previous to the Chicago game.

The Dodgers are middle of the pack in team strikeouts, and I think it’s advantage Gusto, whom L.A. will be seeing for the first time.
